KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,751 premises across the country have been inspected by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) during the first three days of the implementation of the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, says its enforcement director-general Datuk Azman Adam.
Out of this, he said 119 forms of action were taken, including two cases involving traders selling goods above the set maximum prices.
“We have 2,400 officers nationwide and we are assisted by nearly 900 price monitors.
“Also, we receive a significant amount of information from the public, who report what’s happening out there,” he said yesterday.
“The SHMMP initiative aims to regulate the prices of essential goods during the festive season, ensuring fair pricing and preventing exploitation.
“Traders are advised to comply with the set price ceilings. Otherwise, strict action will be taken against offenders,” he said in an interview, reported Bernama.
Under the scheme, 26 types of goods are placed under price control, an increase from 22 types last year.
The four newly-added items are small Indian red onions, carrots and coconut milk.
