A cooperative started by Merdeka icon Tun V.T. Sambanthan aimed at the Indian Malaysian community is expected to give out high dividend rates for 2024, Makkal Osai reports.
For 2023, the National Land Finance Cooperative Society (NLFCS), had given out an 8% dividend rate to its members, which reflected the strong financial health of the 66-year-old institution, according to its managing director Datuk B. Sahadevan.
The unaudited accounts show good revenue in 2024, so members can expect good dividends to be paid out this year, he added.
The 2024 dividend payout would be decided during the cooperative’s annual general meeting in June this year.
The cooperative is also considering issuing bonus shares to members, he added.
Back when Sambanthan first founded NLFCS, he had embarked on a campaign of encouraging members of the Indian community to invest RM10 per month into the fund, said Sahadevan.
He said this when speaking at the annual general meeting of the cooperative’s Johor chapter, held at the Kluang Malaysia Hindu Sangam office.
> Two groups of school students in Tamil Nadu, south India, who got into a brawl over an argument about caste differences, were let off with a stern warning by a judge, the daily also reported.
The two groups, from 11th grade (SPM equivalent) and 12th grade (STPM), were from a government-run school in Thirunelveli.
Apparently some of the 11th grade students had written slurs on the desk of the 12th grade students, which sparked a row between them.
This blew up into a contentious caste matter and the police had to be called in to resolve the situation.
The students, who were produced in a juvenile court, received an earful from the judge for putting their futures at risk by fighting over caste differences.
Fortunately for them, the students only received a reprimand instead of being sent to juvenile offenders institutions as they were scheduled to sit for important exams soon.
