Perak submits names for new Ipoh mayor to Public Service Dept

TAPAH: The Perak government has submitted a list of candidates to the Public Service Department for consideration in appointing Ipoh’s new mayor.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the contract of current mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin will expire on Friday (March 28).

"Administrative and diplomatic officers can only be seconded to a position for a maximum of five years, and the current mayor has completed his term.

"Although we proposed an extension, the department did not approve it. So we are waiting for a new appointee to be assigned," he told a press conference after the second-edition of the state government's 2025 Meet-the-Customer Day programme at Dewan Merdeka here on Thursday.

Rumaizi, 50, was appointed mayor on April 1, 2020.

Meanwhile, on the programme, Saarani said 98 complaints were received from the public on Thursday.

He said that since the first edition of the programme this year, 138 complaints have been received, with 118 successfully resolved and 20 still under follow-up action.

"The state government is committed to ensuring that every complaint is given serious attention and resolved promptly and effectively for the well-being of the people," he said. - Bernama
