Johor cops investigate assault caught on camera

JOHOR BARU: Police have launched an investigation following a video showing a man being assaulted by an unidentified individual has gone viral on social media.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh confirmed the matter after a video uploaded on TikTok depicted an altercation between two motorcyclists.

“A report was lodged at 4.29pm on Monday (March 24) by a 29-year-old local man.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred on Sunday (March 23) at around 4.40pm.

“The victim had stopped at a traffic light at the junction of Jalan Tampoi and Jalan Persiaran Tanjung when a misunderstanding occurred with another motorcyclist,” he said here on Monday evening.

ACP Balveer added the dispute escalated, leading to the suspect physically assaulting the victim by striking his head multiple times before fleeing the scene.

“The public is reminded to refrain from taking matters into their own hands and to let the authorities handle disputes. Avoid violence and always comply with the law,” he said.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

ACP Balveer urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact the Johor Bahru North police district headquarters at 07-5563122.
