Extreme weather alarm being studied, says Nik Nazmi

KUALA LUMPUR: A study will determine whether an alarm system is needed to prepare communities for extreme events like the recent severe storm in Sekinchan, Selangor, says Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

The Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister said the feasibility of the system would be assessed.

"If we can predict where it will happen, an alarm system makes sense. But if the entire country is at risk, it may not be practical.

"We will explore the best ways to keep people safe," he said after attending the Concorde Club meeting on Monday (March 24).

The Concorde Club is an informal gathering of editors, senior journalists, politicians, policymakers, and key opinion leaders.

Previous guests of the Concorde Club, led by Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, included senior ministers and government leaders.Cl

On Tuesday (March 11), a severe storm struck Sekinchan, affecting nearly 30 homes in Taman Ria.

It was the second storm in Sekinchan within a week.

On March 7, a storm hit Parit 4, Sekinchan, causing significant damage to houses.
