Driver nabbed after video of ramming incident under flyover goes viral

KUALA LUMPUR: A man was detained after he was allegedly involved in an accident that seriously injured a 76-year-old motorcycle rider.

A video recording of the accident at Jalan Kuchai Lama near the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban expressway had gone viral from about 8.40pm on Sunday (March 23).

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said during the accident, the driver had rammed his vehicle into the victim, who was seeking shelter in an emergency lane underneath a flyover.

"Investigations showed a motorcycle had stopped in the emergency lane before the rider and the motorcycle were rammed from the back by a car.

"The victim suffered a serious head injury and was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment," he said when contacted on Monday (March 24).

The 40-year-old driver was detained after he lodged a police report on the incident, he said.

"We are investigating under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"We urge those with information to contact the Tun HS Lee traffic police station at 03-2071 9999 or the KL JSPT hotline at 03-2026 0267 or any nearby police station," he said.
