Four Malaysia Airlines flights affected by London's Heathrow Airport blackout

PETALING JAYA: A total of four Malaysia Airlines flights to Britain's Heathrow Airport are affected due to a power outage at the airport caused by a huge fire at a nearby electrical substation, says the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG).

According to MAG, flight MH2 which departed KLIA at 11.37pm on Thursday (March 20) was diverted to Schiphol International Airport in Amsterdam, Holland.

"The flight carrying 246 passengers and 17 crew landed safely at 6.19am Amsterdam local time.

"Passengers are accommodated at hotels near the airport and some have been transferred on other flights," said MAG in a statement on Friday (March 21).

MAG said other flights affected are MH4, which departed for Kuala Lumpur on March 21, carrying 187 passengers and 17 crew members.

"It is expected to arrive in Kuala Lumpur at 3.30pm today (March 21)," it added.

Other flights affected are MH1 and MH3, which were both scheduled to depart London for Kuala Lumpur.

"Malaysia Airlines deeply regrets the inconvenience and disruptions to our passengers' travel plans. Safety remains the number one priority," added MAG.

It was reported that Heathrow Airport was shut down on Friday morning after a huge fire at an electrical substation there.

Airport authorities there had said they are expecting significant disruptions over the next few days.
