Honouring tradition through local talent

Hari Raya has always been about togetherness, tradition and the joy of giving. But this year, MBSB Bank’s limited-edition Raya packets carry something even more special — a story of art, passion and the power of believing in homegrown talent.

Since MBSB Bank officially became a bank in April 2018, it has been on a journey of transformation — not just in the financial sector but also in the way it connects with people. From its products to its branding, the bank has always believed in authenticity and this belief is what made its 2025 Raya packets truly one of a kind.

For years, brands have collaborated with renowned designers and artists to create signature Raya packets. Initially, the bank planned to do the same, teaming up with Kapten Batik, known for their contemporary take on batik design. But something unexpected happened — a fresh idea, right from within its own walls.

'It wasn’t just about me — it was about celebrating creativity,' said Hidayah.'It wasn’t just about me — it was about celebrating creativity,' said Hidayah.

Instead of outsourcing the creativity, the bank turned to its own designer, Hidayah Husna, to bring the spirit of batik-inspired tradition to life. And the result? A stunning, intricate and deeply personal design that was so well-received that it was chosen over the designs proposed by Kapten Batik.

“I still remember when Juju (our bosses) suddenly asked me to try designing the Raya packets myself. At first, I wasn’t sure I could do it, but the more we brainstormed, the more it felt possible,” shared Hidayah.

Using a mix of traditional batik elements and a modern artistic approach, Hidayah carefully crafted each design, making sure that the colours, patterns and details all captured the essence of Raya.

“The hardest part wasn’t just the design itself — it was finding the right elements that would truly bring out the beauty of batik.

“Unlike international motifs, batik designs have a unique complexity. Some parts had to be created from scratch and sourcing the right patterns took time. But with my team’s support, I pushed through,” she explained.

Celebrate creativity

When Hidayah’s design was finally chosen, the response was overwhelming.

“At first, I couldn’t believe it. It was exciting, but at the same time, I knew that after the approval came the real work — adapting the design into all the different collaterals. It was exhausting, but looking back, I feel incredibly proud.”

And then came the unexpected twist — Hidayah herself became part of the story. In a rare moment where a designer steps into the spotlight, she was invited to do a special photoshoot with her own creation. The images quickly made rounds on social media, gaining attention from both MBSB staff and the wider public.

“Honestly, I was so shy. I never imagined myself being part of a campaign. But when I saw how much appreciation there was for the design, it made me happy. It wasn’t just about me — it was about celebrating creativity,” she highlighted.

This isn’t just about a beautifully designed Hari Raya money packet. It’s about trusting local talent, about believing in creativity and about giving people the chance to shine.

For MBSB Bank, this moment symbolises something bigger. Since its transition to a full-fledged bank, it has been committed to doing things differently pushing boundaries, embracing change and making every interaction with its customers meaningful.
