Eight nabbed during Kampung Sungai Baru incident to be charged, say police

KUALA LUMPUR: Eight individuals detained in connection with a disturbance at Kampung Sungai Baru that left the former Dang Wangi OCPD injured in September, are expected to be charged soon.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said investigation papers into the case have been completed and police have received instructions from the prosecution to proceed with the charges.

“They will be charged under Section 145 of the Penal Code, while one suspect will also face a charge under Section 332 of the same code.

“The suspect is accused of obstructing a public servant in discharging his duties, resulting in injury. Charges will be filed in the near future after we receive instructions from the Deputy Public Prosecutor,” he told reporters after KL police's media appreciation ceremony on Friday (Dec 26).

On Sept 11, several individuals were detained following injuries sustained by then Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman during a scuffle involving a group at Kampung Sungai Baru.

He was injured in the head, believed to have been struck by a stone thrown by an unidentified individual while he was overseeing an operation to cut electricity supply to several houses in the area.

The operation was carried out following a court order related to the demolition of residential structures there.
