KOTA KINABALU: A man sustained burns on his left leg in a fire that destroyed a double-storey house in Kampung Mesapol, Sipitang, on Tuesday (March 18) night.

Sipitang fire station chief Joe Jeafery said a team of five led by senior operations commander Siti Zubaidah Rantie @ Nuranti was dispatched after the 9.12pm distress call was received.

“When they arrived at the scene, some 9km from the station, the fire had already engulfed the house,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (March 19).

Firefighters extinguished the blaze using a one-line, two-jet system sourced from the fire engine and an additional portable pump line drawing water from a nearby river.

“A 30-year-old male victim sustained minor burns to his leg and received initial treatment from the medical team,” Jeafery added.

The fire was brought under control at 9.56pm and the operation concluded at 11.40pm.

“We are still investigating the cause of the fire and total loss incurred,” Jeafery added.

The police and Sabah Electricity assisted in the operation.
