JITRA: The presence of “gulai ikan temenung” as a special dish during Ramadan has become a cherished memory for the children of Felcra retiree Sabari Baharom, 62, who is believed to have been murdered in September last year.

His eldest daughter, Dr Suraiya Izzaty, 30, said the Ramadan season makes her miss her father even more, as he would always prepare meals for the family when they returned home for iftar.

“I tried cooking gulai ikan temenung, my father’s favourite dish, but it doesn’t taste the same as his.

“He wasn’t very good at cooking it initially, so we bought him a recipe book. He learned from there until he no longer needed it,” she recalled, Bernama reported.

Sabari was reported missing on Sept 4 last year, before his car was found burnt in Belantik, Sik.

On Sept 30, Kedah police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh confirmed that the victim was believed to have been murdered and thrown into Sungai Padang Terap.

However, the body has yet to be found.

A search for the body was carried out after police arrested two suspects, but it was discontinued on Oct 2 as there were no new leads.

Suraiya Izzaty was met by reporters when she visited the location where the search was conducted after her father’s murder case at the Magistrate’s Court came up for mention yesterday.

“I can only pray that all matters concerning my father’s case go smoothly,” she said, adding that this year’s Aidilfitri will be different without her father around.
