JOHOR BARU: A joint operation between the police and the Padi and Rice Regulatory Division (KPB), a regulatory body under the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry, has led to the seizure of nearly 2.4 tonnes of rice imported from India worth more than RM19,000.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said that based on information, Johor police headquarters special branch and state KPB carried out an inspection at a business premise near Kota Puteri industrial area in Masai here between 12pm and 2.30pm on Wednesday (March 12).
“Checks carried out at the premises found that it did not abide rulings under the paddy and rice control for licensing of wholesalers and retailers,” he said here on Thursday (March 13).
ACP Raub added that a total of 81 units of "super rice" worth RM19,975 have been seized from the premises.
He said from the total number of units, 68 units weighed 25kg each, while the remaining 13 units weigh 50kg each.
ACP Raub added that the seized rice has been handed over to the state KPB for further action.
“In the operation, a 48-year-old male Indian national who works as the premise caretaker, was detained briefly to have his statement recorded,” he said.
ACP Raub urged those with information with any activities that were against the law to contact the Johor Baru South police hotline at 07-2182323.
