Unemployed man charged with murder of part-time singer in Melaka

MELAKA: A 54-year-old unemployed man was charged with murdering a mother of three, who was also a part-time singer, at a Magistrate's Court here.

The charge against Hong Yew Peng was read before Magistrate Nur Afiqah Radhiah Zainurin on Friday (March 7).

However, no plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

According to the charge, the accused was alleged to have inflicted injuries leading to the death of Ling Lu Cheng, 52.

The offence was committed at a house in Jalan Seri Mangga, Taman Seri Mangga Seksyen 1, here, between 1.30am and 3.30am on Feb 22.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Earlier, the accused arrived at the court complex, wearing a Melaka Hospital patient’s attire, with his left hand bandaged due to injuries.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Hanis Aliyah Ahmad Kamarulnajuib did not offer bail, as the offence is non-bailable.

The court set April 21 as the next mention date.

On 23 February, the media reported that the victim, who was married, was found covered in blood on a bed alongside the suspect, in a rented double-storey terrace house.

The victim from Taman Sri Aman, Masjid Tanah, here had been renting the house for the past six months, while her husband resided in Kuala Lumpur.
