Blinding majesty: Cars travelling across Penang Bridge as the morning sun rises. — LIM BENG TATT/The Star
GEORGE TOWN: The breathtaking “hanging sun” perfectly aligned with the Penang Bridge at sunrise has once again captivated photographers.
Armed with telephoto lenses and tripods, shutterbugs converge at the fishermen’s jetty in Batu Uban as early as 6am just to capture the sun, which appears as a glowing orange yolk behind the bridge’s mid-span columns.
Shooting the spectacle is no easy feat, as achieving the golden shot with the right exposure and composition requires skill and experience, as well as clear weather conditions.
A slight mist or haze from the morning air may enhance the scene, creating a natural dimming effect to filter the sun’s intense ray.
The natural occurence happens from February to March, and again from August to September, when the sun’s alignment coincides with the Earth’s rotation, making it appear directly behind the bridge at sunrise.
