Post-mortem of Customs tribunal officer concluded


KUALA LUMPUR: The cause of death for the tribunal officer assigned to the Customs Department was compression of the neck due to ligature strangulation.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa (pic) said the post-mortem was conducted from 11am until 1.30pm on Thursday (March 6) at the Sultan Idris Hospital's Forensic and Pathology Department.

"The cause of death was compression of the neck due to ligature strangulation.

"Based on the post-mortem result and explanation by the pathologist, the case is still classified as sudden death," he said when contacted on Thursday (March 6).

It was reported that the 45-year-old victim was found dead at his office in Putrajaya.

It is learnt that the officer, who was from the Attorney-General's Chambers, was found dead with his neck and legs tied with a cable tie at the Treasury Office of the Finance Ministry (MOF)

Comm Rusdi had said the distress call was received at about 10.56am on Wednesday (March 5).

"A team of police personnel was dispatched to the scene.

"They discovered the victim lying on the office floor with his legs and neck bound using a cable tie.

"We have not found any criminal element, but we will know more once the post-mortem is conducted tomorrow," he said on Wednesday.

Comm Rusdi advised the public not to speculate on the case and urged those with information to contact the KL police hotline at 03-2115999 or Putrajaya police at 03-88862222.

Meanwhile, the MOF said the victim's family had been informed of the incident.

"We are deeply saddened (over the incident). Our deepest condolences to the victim's family.

"We will cooperate fully and leave it to the police to investigate," it said in a statement.
