Govt to issue special passes for investors, expats from April, says Home Minister

KUALA LUMPUR: Beginning April 1, 2025, the Home Ministry will issue a special pass to investors or expatriate groups, said Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

“We will begin this on April 1. So, investors can stay here longer to handle their investments.

“The passes will be issued electronically,” said Saifuddin during Minister’s Question Time on Thursday (March 6).

Saifuddin said the proposed pass for investors is a new initiative and it will facilitate expatriates to live in Malaysia.

“They (investors) are also looking at the ease of doing business. The quicker and easier applications are, the better their acceptance of the business climate in this country,” added Saifuddin.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin said there are presently 11,700 outstanding applications on entry permits for spouses to Malaysians.

“The Immigration Department is committed to solve all applications by June this year,” added Saifuddin.

On Monday (March 6), Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said the implementation of the improved entry permit process for Malaysian spouses will begin on Sept 1.

Shamsul said that to be eligible to apply for an entry permit, the foreign wives of Malaysian citizens must be married for at least three years and they must hold a social visit pass for a year.

For the husbands of Malaysian citizens, a minimum marriage period of five years is required.
