SEREMBAN: Police have approved 107 permits to date for ceramah and other campaign-related activities for the Aug 1 Negri Sembilan state election.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said that in total, police received 109 applications since Nomination Day on Saturday (July 18).
"We will monitor all political activities and programmes to ensure these are held in accordance with the related laws and do not disrupt security and public order," he said in a statement on Monday (July 20).
DCP Alzafny said they received 90 applications on Sunday (July 19) alone, and approved 88.
He also said police have opened investigation papers following two reports received on Sunday.
He said the first report was lodged by a man in Kuala Klawang claiming that campaign material such as flags and banners belonging to his party were damaged and dumped in a drain.
A second person in the same area reported that an unknown individual deliberately damaged his car bumper while he was putting up party flags.
Both cases are being probed under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief.
