Cops hunting for man accused of insulting Islam in viral video

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are searching for a man who allegedly insulted Islam by using crude words in a video that went viral on Facebook.

A police report was lodged by a 32-year-old man at the Manchis police station in Bentong, Pahang, on Wednesday (March 5).

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the investigation is being conducted by Bukit Aman CID's Special Investigation Unit (USJT) following the report.

"We discovered the video, which went viral since Wednesday (March 5), was eventually taken down due to backlash from the public.

"We view acts of insulting any religion in the country as a very serious offence as it could jeopardise public order and harmony," he said when contacted on Thursday (March 6).

The IGP stated that the investigation is being conducted under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.
