SUBANG: Batik Air has introduced Hari Raya Fixed Fares for flights to Sarawak and Sabah, providing more affordable and transparent travel options for Malaysians during the festive season, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
The initiative, launched in collaboration with the government, caps fares at RM319 for flights to Sarawak and RM379 for Sabah.
Loke praised the airline’s move, highlighting its understanding of passengers' needs during peak travel periods.
"As we approach the joyous festivities of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, travel takes on an even deeper significance. It is the bridge that reunites families, brings loved ones home, and strengthens the bonds that matter most," Loke said during the launch on Thursday (March 6).
Present at the event were Batik Air CEO Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) Executive Chairman Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kasim, Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) CEO Datuk Captain Norazman Mahmud, and COO for Airport Operations Malaysia Gordon Stewart.
Batik Air will increase flight frequencies with up to 140 additional services to key domestic destinations, including Kota Bharu, Alor Setar, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Sibu, Sandakan, and Tawau.
"These additional flights will provide greater flexibility and convenience, ensuring more Malaysians can return home for the celebrations," Loke added.
He reassured travellers that government intervention has helped stabilize airfare prices during the festive period, preventing one-way ticket prices from exceeding RM1,000.
"With this intervention, we can ensure more affordable flight prices that do not skyrocket beyond RM1,000 for a one-way ticket. This initiative represents a collaborative effort between the government and airlines, and I welcome their role and contributions," he said.
For other domestic flights, the government has set a maximum ticket price of RM499, with subsidies provided to maintain affordability.
Loke noted that all airlines have increased flights for the festive season, with this year seeing an even greater expansion in capacity.
"This year, we have more aircraft, more flights. For instance, Batik Air now has a total of 51 aircraft, allowing them to increase flight frequencies and optimize operations," he explained.
To accommodate the expected surge in passengers, Batik Air is adding over 22,000 additional seats during the peak travel period.
Loke also emphasized the importance of a smooth and seamless travel experience, praising the efforts of airlines, airport operators, and regulatory bodies in maintaining operational efficiency.
"Beyond affordability and accessibility, another key priority is ensuring a smooth, seamless travel experience. With the expected surge in passengers, I appreciate the efforts to maintain efficiency, streamline passenger flows, and enhance overall airport experiences," he said.
In addition to air travel, Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) will add extra ETS services to the northern region, with additional trips planned for services to the East Coast.
