SEREMBAN: A 40-year-old hairstylist claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt to her husband using a dangerous weapon and means.

Sharifah Nurul Ainasaama Syed Omar, who hobbled into the court on crutches, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to her before judge Surita Budin on Tuesday (March 4).

She was charged with using a knife, dumbbells and a broomstick to injure her 31-year-old husband, Muhammad Danial Zafri Zairi.

The alleged offence was committed at a house in Taman Iringan Bayu at around 5am on Wednesday (Feb 26).

She was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means, read together with Section 326A.

The offence carries a jail term of up to 10 years, or a fine, or whipping upon conviction.

Section 326A provides for a prison term twice as long as the maximum term under Section 324.

Deputy public prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni then proposed bail of RM20,000 with one surety.

She said the accused should stay away from the victim, report once a month to the nearest police station until disposal of the case, and surrender her passport to the court.

Sharifah Nurul Ainasaama, who was unrepresented, asked for a low bail amount as she had to provide for her two children from a previous marriage.

"Also, he (the alleged victim) assaulted me first," she said, claiming that she had suffered a broken leg as a result of a fight with Danial.

Asked by the court about the alleged victim's injuries, DPP Norazihah said he had lacerations, swelling and bite marks.

Judge Surita then set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and allowed the other applications by the prosecution.

She fixed April 14 for mention and to allow the accused to appoint a lawyer.
