MCA working to regain Chinese community’s support

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA is facing a seat dilemma within the unity government, as the existing seat allocation model is not the right path for the party’s survival, says secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon (pic).

He pointed out that under the current arrangement, MCA is expected to secure just two parliamentary and seven state seats, based on the pattern of recent state elections and by-elections, where seats go to the incumbent party.

“Even in the best-case scenario, we might gain just a few extra seats, but this is not a viable long-term solution for MCA.

“We cannot wait for others to hand us seats. We must take the initiative and actively work to regain the support of the Chinese community.

“This is not just the way forward for MCA but also for the Chinese community. Only by doing this can MCA break out of its current predicament and create a new future for all,” he said during MCA’s 76th anniversary celebration at Wisma MCA yesterday.

Chong stressed that only by upholding the spirit of perseverance and strength can MCA reshape the political landscape, win public support, and bring new hope to both the nation and the Chinese community.

“To become the people’s choice, MCA must look within itself. We must actively engage with the rakyat, demonstrate our capabilities, take responsibility, and uphold our values.

“The people must see MCA’s efforts, believe in our sincerity, and ultimately entrust us with the future of the country,” he said.

In the 15th General Election, MCA won two parliamentary seats: Ayer Hitam, which was secured by MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, and Tanjung Piai, won by vice-president Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng.

For state seats, Choong Shin Heng won in Chenderiang, while Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem emerged victorious in Machap Jaya.

Datuk Lim Ban Hong secured Kelebang, Tan Chong won in Bekok, Ling Tian Soon claimed Yong Peng, Lee Ting Han triumphed in Paloh, and Tan Eng Meng won Pekan Nanas.
