GEORGE TOWN: Malaysia has reaffirmed its stance in supporting the ceasefire in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and urges all parties to comply with it, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
"I think as far as Malaysia is concerned, we are very clear on the matter.
"We support the ceasefire and hope that all parties abide by the decision of the ceasefire," he said after attending the walkabout session at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort on Tuesday (Feb 25).
He spent about an hour inspecting preparations for the Asean Defence Minister Meeting (ADMM) retreat, which began on Tuesday at the resort. Delegates from over 150 countries were expected to attend.
He was responding to questions about Asean’s position on the ceasefire, which Israel has breached.
Reports indicate that several Palestinian homes in Rafah, southern Gaza, caught fire after being hit by Israeli gunfire.
Witnesses stated that Israeli drones and tanks fired at central Rafah, destroying several houses in the ensuing blaze.
Israeli attacks were also reported in eastern Gaza City, though no casualties have been confirmed so far.
Mohamed Khaled added that the issue of Palestine would be discussed at the Asean Summit in May when regional leaders convene.
Regarding Russian-Ukraine conflicts, Malaysia is in line with the Asean stand in wanting the conflict to be resolved peacefully.
"It has always been Asean's stand, and we abide by our leader's stand that we want the conflict to be resolved peacefully," he said.
