Man killed as car catches fire after NSE accident

JOHOR BARU: A 22-year-old man has died after his vehicle burst into flames at KM5.5 of the North-South Expressway here.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said police received information about the incident at 5am on Sunday (Feb 23).

"The victim was driving towards Skudai when the vehicle suddenly caught fire.

"He managed to bring the car to a stop against the guardrail but the position of the vehicle prevented him from escaping," he said in a statement.

The Kempas Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched to the scene and attempted to extinguish the fire.

However, they were unable to rescue the victim from the burning vehicle.

Operations commander Taufiq Atan said the car was already 90% engulfed in flames when the team arrived at the location.
