NIBONG TEBAL: It is her first day at school, so S. Preshanthini is understandably excited and anxious at the same time.

Furthermore, she would have to face a class filled with people just half her age.

Preshanthini, 26, is making her debut as a teacher, fulfilling a childhood ambition.

“I am sure the students are nervous too, so I hope we can put each other at ease. I hope they will like me and enjoy the lessons,” she said.

Preshanthini, who graduated from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, will be teaching Tamil and Bahasa Malaysia to Form One students at SMK Saujana Indah in Nibong Tebal.

She explained that she had specifically chosen these two subjects as she has a love for languages.

“I hope that I can make it interesting for all of them,” she said in an interview during a class break yesterday.

From young, Preshanthini said she had always wanted to be a teacher.

“I had always wanted to share my knowledge and now that it has finally happened, I am excited to begin my career.”

She explained that she had admired the profession since she was small.

In secondary school, she said her desire to be a teacher deepened when she saw the importance of receiving good guidance from her educators.

Preshanthini, who lives near the school, said she is lucky to get such a posting.

“It is nice that I do not need to relocate. I can head home daily.

“The other teachers have been welcoming, which is nice as I can lean on them for help,” she said.

She admitted to feeling nervous about facing a class packed with students.

“It is the first time I have to run a class and lessons on my own.

“But this is my childhood dream. I will cherish every moment of this special day,” she added.
