Kuching village fire leaves seven families homeless


KUCHING: A night blaze in Kg Tabuan Dayak here has left seven families of 18 adults and four children homeless when their four rented houses burned down on Sunday (Feb 16).

A spokesman from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre, the fire which broke out at about 9pm razed all four double-storey houses.

"Firefighting operations involved personnel from the Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station, who tackled the fire from the front, while a team from the Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Station worked from the rear,” he said.

All victims have been temporarily placed at the All Saints Church on Jalan Tabuan Jaya.

The cause of the fire and estimated losses are still under investigation, he added.

In a separate incident in Sibu, a Mercedes-Benz parked next to a shophouse on Lorong Wawasan 20B was destroyed by fire at around 1am Monday. No casualties were reported in the incident. - Bernama
