Don’t close the door on forming Johor unity govt, says PKR lawmaker

JOHOR BARU: The “door” should remain open for the possibility of forming a Johor unity government, says PKR lawmaker Jimmy Puah.

The Tebrau MP, who is also Johor PKR vice-chief, said continuous talks should be held about the matter as Pakatan Harapan could contribute positively to the state’s administration.

“To me, there is still room for discussion on that matter. The door should not be closed.

“The inclusion of component parties of the Unity Government (in the state) is important as we have the necessary experience,” he said when met by the media during a Chinese New Year open house event for his constituents here on Sunday (Feb 16).

Puah added that he supported Johor PKR Youth vice-chief Muhammad Faezuddin Mohd Puad’s recent statement, which called for the inclusion of Pakatan leaders in the state’s line-up to ensure victory in the next general election.

On Feb 9, Muhammad Faezuddin said it was important for Pakatan leaders to take on state leadership positions such as village heads or local councillors to do so.

Puah emphasised that Pakatan was not seeking positions in the state executive council line-up but only at the grassroots levels.

“We have experience in administration as well and can contribute to making the state even better,” added Puah, who is also a former Johor executive councillor.

In the 2022 Johor state election, Barisan Nasional won 40 seats, Pakatan secured 13, including one from Muda, while Perikatan Nasional won three seats.

The Johor state executive council is made up of 10 Barisan Nasional assemblymen, with seven from Umno, two from MCA, and one from MIC.
