A CAT turned out to be the culprit that nearly caused a riot by bringing a piece of meat into a temple in Hyderabad, India.

The priest at the temple found a piece of meat near the temple’s inner sanctum, Makkal Osai reported.

Shocked and dismayed, the priest reported the matter to the temple committee, suspecting sabotage or vandalism.

Local Bharatiya Janata Party members immediately jumped on the bandwagon when the matter leaked, causing public concern that this would become fuel for sectarian discontent.

The police then formed four teams to investigate how the piece of meat ended up in the area.

They found footage from CCTV of a cat carrying a small piece of meat entering the temple, probably to find a quiet place to eat.

The entire saga went viral online with netizens lamenting the state of the country where such matters could spark outcry.
