Nepalese factory worker fatally stabbed in Batu Pahat hostel altercation

BATU PAHAT: A 30-year-old Nepalese factory worker was fatally stabbed following a violent altercation at a foreign workers' hostel in Sri Gading.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani stated that initial investigations revealed the incident took place on Feb 9 at 11.30pm within a gated workers dormitory belonging to a local factory.

"The fight is believed to have stemmed from a provocation between a group of Bangladeshi and Nepalese workers and the deceased. The deceased, identified as Mochi Satindar, a Nepalese national, sustained multiple injuries and is believed to have been stabbed with a sharp weapon.

"A post-mortem conducted by a Forensic Pathology Specialist at the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital (HSNI) Batu Pahat confirmed the cause of death as a stab wound to the abdomen," he said in a statement on Saturday (Feb 15).

ACP Shahrulanuar added that, acting on intelligence, police have arrested one Bangladeshi suspect (24 years old) and four Nepalese suspects aged between 22 and 27.

"All suspects were co-workers of the victim and lived in the same hostel. The incident occurred outside of working hours. A sharp weapon, believed to have been used in the attack, was also recovered and seized for further investigation," he said.

The five suspects have been remanded for seven days, from Feb 10 to Feb 16, as police continue their investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
