Haj pilgrims to get easier access to vaccines

PETALING JAYA: Haj pilgrims will find it easier to access vaccines from private and public health facilities nationwide, thanks to coordination between the Health Ministry and Lembaga Tabung Haji.

The Saudi Arabian government has made meningococcal vaccine shots compulsory for all pilgrims.

"Additionally, Covid-19 and influenza vaccines are also mandatory for targeted groups," said the Health Ministry in a statement on Saturday (Feb 15).

"Tabung Haji, through a press release dated Feb 14, has informed the need for Covid-19 and influenza vaccines for pilgrims aged 65 and above and individuals categorised as high risk during medical check-ups,” it added

It said such groups could receive free vaccinations at government facilities according to their appointment.

"A total of 247 health clinics have been identified nationwide, which can be accessed through the TH website at www.tabunghaji.gov.my."

"Appointments can be made through the MySejahtera app from February 14 and for individuals from February 17."

The ministry said pilgrims not in the targeted group can receive their vaccination voluntarily at government health facilities.

"In line with the National Influenza Immunization Programme, pilgrims above the age of 60 with at least one comorbidity can get free vaccination from February 14."

It said further questions can be forwarded to the Health Ministry or TH.
