THE Indian state of Andhra Pradesh has imposed a three-month moratorium on poultry sales due to bird flu, Malaysia Nanban reported.

Two districts in the state are experiencing rapid spread of bird flu resulting in the death of hundreds of thousands of chickens every day. This has also caused public concern to rise.

The two districts have been declared as red zones and are not allowed to have any chicken farms and selling of chicken and eggs for three months.

The state government has also issued an advisory for the public to avoid eggs for the time being.

Chickens being transported from neighbouring Tamil Nadu and Karnataka states are also being sent back.

Authorities said they have rejected shipments of hundreds of thousands of chickens from Tamil Nadu alone.
