Drug-fueled car chase ends in crash and arrest in Kluang

KLUANG: A local man under the influence of drugs led the police on a 5KM chase around Kluang town before crashing his vehicle.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh confirmed the incident and said that the male suspect, who is in his 40’s, has been successfully arrested.

“The incident started at around 9am on Friday morning (Sept 14) when a police Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) spotted a suspicious car at a junction near Jalan Haji Manan here.

“The driver ignored the police instruction to stop, and he then sped off. My men chased the suspect for about 5KM before the suspect’s car hit a parked car at a traffic light near Kluang Mall,” he said here on Friday night.

ACP Bahrin said the collision led the police to immediately swarm the suspect’s car, resulting in his arrest.

Videos of the incident went viral on social media.

“The man has been arrested for failing to cooperate. Checks inside his vehicle found drugs believed to be heroin,” he said.

ACP Bahrin added the suspect also tested positive for drugs while further checks found he has 15 prior criminal and drug records against him.

He said the suspect would be brought to Batu Pahat Magistrate Court on Saturday (Sept 15) for the remand process and urged those with information regarding the case to contact Kluang police hotline at 07-7766822.
