Contractor detained for giving false testimony in Johor court


JOHOR BARU: The Johor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a contractor for giving false testimony at the Sessions Court here.

According to a source, the 35-year-old male suspect was detained at the Mersing MACC branch office at around 9pm on Thursday (Feb 13).

It is learnt that the suspect was the 12th prosecution witness who has testified before Sessions Judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Arifin Ismail where his testimony was not in line with the statements previously given to MACC investigating officers in 2022 and 2024.

When contacted, Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest and said that the case was being investigated under Section 27(2) of the MACC Act 2009.

It is also learnt that the suspect would be brought to the Magistrate Court here to get a remand application.
