KUALA LUMPUR: This Chinese New Year, McDonald’s Malaysia took its festive celebrations to new heights with its inaugural Mekdi Chinese New Year (CNY) open house.

For almost a decade, McDonald’s Malaysia has marked the CNY season by spreading joy through visits to old folks’ homes.

This year, the celebration extended to include customers and communities in selected locations, reflecting the company’s gratitude to Malaysians who have supported them through the years.

The Mekdi CNY open house was held at three McDonald’s restaurants across Malaysia, specifically McDonald’s Bandar Sri Damansara, (Feb 7), McDonald’s Kota Laksamana, Melaka (Feb 8), and McDonald’s Greenlane, Penang (Feb 9).

These events brought Malaysians together to celebrate the joyous occasion with a series of exciting activities.

This initiative is part of McDonald’s Malaysia’s ongoing Prosperity Campaign, which emphasises the meaning of prosperity as being about relationships, togetherness and community – values that are deeply cherished by Malaysians.

Through this campaign, McDonald’s Malaysia aims to create meaningful moments that celebrate these values and strengthen connections with its customers and the community.

Highlights of the open house included traditional lion dance performances, vibrant “lou sang” featuring the unique McDonald’s Prosperity Lou-Lou Curly Fries and cultural performances that showcased Malaysia’s rich heritage.

Guests were also treated to spectacular firework displays and had the opportunity to meet and engage with popular local celebrities who joined in the festivities.

Adding to the festive cheer, McDonald’s Malaysia provided complimentary Prosperity Burger set meals to participants at each location from 6pm to 7pm, spreading the Prosperity Burger’s iconic taste to thousands of attendees.

McDonald’s Malaysia chief marketing officer Chin Mei Lee said, “At McDonald’s Malaysia, we believe that celebrations like CNY are about bringing people together.

“The Mekdi CNY open house is our way of thanking the community for their unwavering support over the years.

“As part of our Prosperity Campaign, which celebrates prosperity as being about relationships and togetherness, this open house reflects our commitment to fostering meaningful connections and sharing the festive joy with Malaysians.”

The open house represents McDonald’s Malaysia’s continued commitment to celebrating Malaysia’s diversity and giving back to the communities it serves.
