JPJ issues 13,000 notices during CNY


JOHOR BARU: Nearly 13,000 notices have been issued for traffic offences by the Johor Road Transport Department during the Chinese New Year period.

Its director Azmil Zainal Adnan said from Jan 20 to Feb 9, the department inspected 29,802 vehicles and issued 12,931 notices.

The most common was driving without valid licences, which accounted for 21% of all offences, he said.

Others included expired road tax, no insurance, illegal lane changing, running red lights, riding motorcycles without helmets and not possessing commercial driving licences.

Azmil said that 159 vehicles, deemed unsafe to hit the road, were seized during the operation.

He emphasised that the operation is ongoing while reminding all road users to adhere to traffic laws and regulations.
