JPJ seizes cars, motorcycles, issues 346 notices in late night operation in KL

PETALING JAYA: Six cars and two motorcycles were seized, while 346 notices were issued during a late-night enforcement sweep by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) targeting noise pollution and extreme vehicle modifications in the capital.

Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Hamidi Adam said the operation, carried out by JPJ Kuala Lumpur’s Falcon Unit, was conducted from 10pm on Feb 14 to 5am on Feb 15 at several locations around the city following public complaints.

He said, said the crackdown focused on motorists flouting regulations, particularly those involved in illegal modifications that disrupt public order and compromise road safety.

“A total of 346 notices were issued for various offences, including driving without a valid Competent Driving Licence (CDL), expired road tax, no insurance coverage, non-compliant registration numbers, unauthorised vehicle modifications and engine changes without proper endorsement.

“Of the total, 273 notices were issued under P22, 56 under Section 61(1), eight under Section 64(1), three under PG1 and six under P23,” he said in a statement on Monday (Feb 16).

In one incident, a 26-year-old woman attempted to evade a roadblock by turning back before the inspection point and riding against the flow of traffic.

“Her actions endangered not only herself but also other road users. Further inspection found that the motorcycle was using a confusing and non-compliant registration number. The vehicle was seized for further action,” he said.

He stressed that enforcement efforts would be intensified from time to time to ensure compliance with the law and safeguard the safety of all road users.
