JPJ issues over 7,000 notices to motorcyclists during 2026 CNY special operation

KOTA BHARU: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued a total of 7,414 P (22) notices to motorcyclists during the Special Operation in conjunction with the 2026 Chinese New Year (Ops TBC 2026), which began on Feb 9.

JPJ Deputy Director-General (Management and Operations), Datuk Jazmanie Shafawi, said that during the same period, 41,332 motorcycles were inspected nationwide, with 103 of them seized for various offences.

"In addition, 4,242 buses were inspected at depots and terminals across the country as of yesterday. From that total, 779 inspection slips were issued.

"Meanwhile, two buses were seized for non-compliance with established safety and legal requirements," he told reporters after overseeing the JPJ special operation for Chinese New Year at Lembah Sireh here on Monday (Feb 16).

He added that the department also conducted undercover operations, with officers posing as bus passengers to monitor legal compliance and safety aspects more comprehensively, especially during the surge in travel during the festive season.

"A total of 381 bus drivers underwent urine screening tests throughout the operation, with three testing positive for drugs. Further action has been taken against them.

"As for goods vehicles, 106 enforcement actions were recorded nationwide. Five states recorded the highest number of cases, namely Negeri Sembilan with 35 cases, followed by Selangor (16), Penang (15), Perak (12), and Terengganu (9)," he said. – Bernama
