PUTRAJAYA: Israel must foot the almost half a trillion ringgit bill to rebuilding war torn Gaza instead of trying to displace its people, says Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"The financial cost of the destruction in Gaza is about US$100bil (RM447bil) and Israel and the Netanyahu government are responsible for this heavy

bill.

"Israel must pay this bill on its own," said during a public lecture at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here on Monday (Feb 10).

Erdogan said that instead of looking to displace Gazans from their land, the Israeli government should for a source to cover the rebuilding of Gaza.

Earlier on Monday (Feb 10), the Turkish president was conferred an Honorary Doctorate in International Relations by Universiti Malaya in recognition of his contributions to global diplomacy and international negotiations.

University Chancellor Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah conferred the honorary degree on Erdogan in a special ceremony held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).

Erdogan is on a two-day visit to Malaysia.

The Turkish president will be welcomed with an official reception at Perdana Putra on Tuesday (Feb 11), followed by a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
