KUALA LUMPUR: The Economy Ministry requires space and time to accurately define and classify the new T15 high-income group, according to Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
Amir emphasised that the government does not wish to rush the new definition for the high-income bracket.
“We hope the Economy Ministry will finalise the matter soon, but what is more important is that it must be done with the right data and understanding.
"We don’t want to do this in haste because we don’t want to be wrong. So, give some time to the Economy Ministry to finish their efforts," Amir said during a press conference after launching the "Satu Pemimpin Satu Kampung (Santuni Madani)" programme under CIMB on Saturday (Feb 8).
In 2022, the T15 group was defined by the Statistics Department as those with a household income of at least RM13,295.
Under Budget 2025, those classified under T15 would no longer be eligible for health, education, and fuel subsidies.
Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli stated in December last year that the classification of the top 15% income group is expected to be announced by the first quarter of 2025.
