Over 50,000 potholes nationwide patched up last year, says Works Ministry


KUALA LUMPUR: More than 50,000 potholes along federal roads nationwide were patched up last year, says the Works Ministry.

Some 3,955 potholes were along federal roads in the peninsula while 51,949 were along roads in the territories of Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

“We are committed to ensuring federal roads are always in safe conditions through conducting routine maintenance rounds throughout the year,” it said in a written reply on Thursday (Feb 6).

The ministry added that potholes are also monitored through an online system.

It said the system ensures potholes are patched between a 24-hour and three-day period, once identified.

“All repairs must be done in accordance with the specifications and procedures set by the Public Works Department,” it said.

The ministry was responding to a question by Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik (PH-Balik Pulau) who asked about the ministry’s efforts in repairing potholes and ensuring it is done appropriately.
