Alaskan Malamute saved from drain in Kota Kinabalu

KOTA KINABALU: The adorable antics of a fluffy Alaskan Malamute that fell into a drain in the city have caught the attention of social media users.

The dog's rescue was recorded on video, as reported by one of its rescuers on Monday morning (Feb 3).

The rescue operation by Sabah Civil Defence (APM) Department was shared on the APM Kota Kinabalu TikTok page, and garnered over 100,000 likes on various platforms.

The video first showed the dog looking into the screen, and then later, a Civil Defence personnel member was seen coaxing it.

A ladder was prepared for the dog to escape the drain, but it did not know how to use it.

Rescue personnel carried the dog up the ladder and out of the drain. The dog was then released back into the area, as it was believed to live nearby.

Social media users thanked the APM for helping the dog, while many commented how these dog breeds were huge but mainly friendly, naughty and smart.

Malamutes, like huskies, are known for their incredible escape strategies.
