126 participants from 44 countries to take part in upcoming Pasir Gudang World Kite Festival

JOHOR BARU: A total of 126 participants from 44 countries will take part in the upcoming 27th Pasir Gudang World Kite Festival at Bukit Layang-Layang, here.

Malaysian Kite Council (MPM) president Datuk A. Rahim Nin said the event will run from Feb 12 to Feb 16, with over 500,000 visitors expected to attend.

“We will also have 250 local participants from the MPM network. This year, the festival will collaborate with the Perlis State Government to organise the Perlis International Kite Fiesta on Feb 18.

“We have also partnered with organisers from Satun, Thailand, where kiters will take part in the Satun International Kite Festival from Feb 20 to Feb 23.

“The theme for this year’s festival is ‘Stay Clean, Enjoy Fly,’ promoting environmental cleanliness while celebrating the joy of kite flying,” he said at a press conference at Menara Aqabah on Saturday (Feb 1).

He added that the theme aligns with the government’s efforts to encourage the public to prioritise cleanliness in all aspects of life, supporting the Johor Bersih agenda for a cleaner and healthier environment.

“This year, three new countries—La Reunion, Tasmania, and Tahiti—will be participating in the festival for the first time.

“A Special Exhibition Gallery will be set up to showcase unique international kites from countries such as Indonesia, Sweden, Cambodia, Thailand, Brunei, and Malaysia,” he added.
