PUTRAJAYA: The 2025 Federal Territories Day celebrations will feature more than 60 events across Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan, says Federal Territories Department director-general, Datuk Noridah Abdul Rahim.
This year’s festivities will be based on the six key pillars of recognition, science and education, entrepreneurship, community, arts and culture as well as sports, to align with the Malaysia Madani concepts focusing on sustainability, well-being, creativity, respect, confidence and compassion, she said.
"Themed 'Wilayah Persekutuan Kita' (Our Federal Territories), this year marks the 21st edition of the celebration since its inception in 2004. We hope these diverse activities will foster a sense of unity and pride among residents of the Federal Territories," Noridah shared, adding that the programmes were designed to be people-friendly and inclusive, reflecting the diversity of the communities across the three Federal Territories.
The department will collaborate with government agencies, private companies, local community representatives, corporations, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) through a smart partnership approach to deliver these events that will span a month, starting on Feb 1, with Kuala Lumpur hosting the main event.
Notable programs include the Federal Territories Day Run in Putrajaya on Feb 1, Labuan on Feb 9, and Kuala Lumpur on Feb 19, as well as Bersih-Kal (recreational activities combined with cleaning efforts), FT GORO, a Rahmah Sale, in collaboration with Yayasan Rahmah Malaysia to offer essential items at reduced prices, a blood donation drive, a fishing competition, the Putrajaya Bird Race and Photography contest, an inter-Federal Territories archery competition, the FT Challenge Mini Explorace, a Muay Thai championship, giant hot air balloons and the 2025 Putrajaya Open Day.
Noridah said in conjunction with the celebrations, the Putrajaya Corporation will launch a month-long ‘Jom Bayar Saman’ campaign from Feb 1, offering reduced fines and compounds of RM10, with court fines cut to RM30 and those interested can check their fines at www.ppj.gov.my.
Payments can be made at the Corporation’s Customer Service Centre or at their booths during the four-day Putrajaya Open Day, beginning Feb 6, she said.
Noridah also highlighted that 72,000 Federal Territories flags have been distributed as part of the annual flag-hoisting programme, symbolising pride and love for the Federal Territories.
As of 2024, the Federal Territories have a total population of 2.289 million, with Kuala Lumpur having 2.067 million residents, followed by Putrajaya (120,300) and Labuan (100,800). - Bernama
