Couple arrested for swindling RM95,180 from Along Cham’s wife

PETALING JAYA: A married couple has been detained for allegedly cheating the wife of comedian Along Cham of RM95,180.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the couple, in their 20s, were detained on Wednesday (Jan 29).

"Both suspects were detained at about 10pm at their home in Salak Tinggi, Sepang.

"They will be remanded for further investigation," he said when contacted on Thursday (Jan 30).

Comm Hussein said the police have recorded the statements of three individuals, including the wife of Along Cham, Afreena Suhaimi.

It was previously reported that Afeena lodged a police report claiming she was cheated of RM95,180, which were funds she was planning to use to reduce the charges against her husband.

Comm Hussein had said the victim, who is an airline company employee, met the suspect in Dec last year to discuss her husband's ongoing court case.

"The suspect met the victim a few times and convinced her that she could assist her to resolve the issue.

"Initial investigations revealed that the 28-year-old suspect met the victim several times and convinced her that she could help settle the matter.

"The victim eventually agreed and transferred a total of RM95,180 into two bank accounts provided by the suspect,” he said.

Comm Hussein said the victim realised that the suspect did not fulfill her promise and subsequently lodged a police report in Kajang on Jan 28. An investigation paper has been opened to look into the case.

"An Investigation showed the suspect is believed to be working as a diesel supplier. "We advise the public to always be wary of offers to assist pertaining to any case. Refer to the authorities before taking any action," he said.

The case is classified under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
