16-year-old held after Form 2 student dies at sports school
SEREMBAN: Police have classified the death of a Form 2 student at a sports school here as murder.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said a 16-year-old student has also been detained to assist in investigations.
At press time, 21 people including students, teachers and the victim’s parents have had their statements recorded.
He said initial investigations showed that the incident happened at about 8pm in the school hostel on Friday.
“The victim was taken to Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Najihah in Kuala Pilah where doctors pronounced him dead.
“We are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he said in a statement yesterday.
DCP Alzafny said police would examine all facts and evidence to determine the actual cause and motive.
He urged the public not to speculate or spread unverified information as this could affect the investigation and violate the privacy of the families of the students involved.
“We take any incident of violence involving students seriously, particularly when there is a loss of life.
“Those with information should come forward and assist us in the case,” he said.
DCP Alzafny also assured the public that the investigation will be conducted professionally, thoroughly and based on evidence to provide justice to all parties.
Meanwhile, Kuala Pilah OCPD Supt Muhamad Mustafah Hussin said the student was found unconscious at the school hostel.
The victim, identified as Muhammad Idlan Fareeq Shahril, 14, from Gemencheh, was the eldest of three siblings.
“A post-mortem will be conducted at Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar in Seremban,” he said when contacted.
