PETALING JAYA: An Indonesian woman has been arrested after she allegedly used a forged Malaysian identity card (MyKad) and birth certificate to run a business in Kuantan, Pahang.
The 36-year-old suspect, originally from Medan, was arrested during a raid on Sunday (Jan 26).
National Registration Department (NRD) Investigation and Enforcement director Mohammad Khairu Farhan Md Saad said the suspect was detained at her residence in Kampung Kempadang, where investigators found both a valid Indonesian passport and a fake Malaysian MyKad containing false information.
"It is believed that the woman acquired a birth certificate belonging to another individual from an agent for RM8,000, which was then used to obtain the MyKad," Mohammad Khairu Farhan said in a statement on Monday (Jan 27).
The suspect is currently in custody for further investigations under Rule 25(1)(b) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 which carries up to three years in prison, a maximum fine of RM20,000, or both, if convicted.
