Police have recorded Harith Iskander's statement over coffee joke, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: Comedian Harith Iskander (pic) has been summoned by the police to assist in the investigation over allegations of making insensitive comments on Islam in a Facebook post and has had his statement recorded.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the 54-year-old comedian's statement was recorded on Wednesday (Jan 22).

He said the police had also identified the identity of another individual linked to the case and are in the process of tracking them.

"So far, we have received 16 police reports related to this issue nationwide and one investigation paper has been opened under Sections 298 and 505 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," he said when contacted Friday (Jan 24).

Meanwhile, when asked on a report lodged in Dang Wangi involving alleged threats received by Harith, Kuala Lumpur police Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the case has been referred to the Johor police.

The actor is accused of uploading the post during the recent controversy over the halal status of a ham and cheese sandwich, which was alleged to have made a mockery of the Islamic religion. - Bernama
