Hajiji: RM70mill allotted for Chinese, missionary schools and non-Muslim houses of worship in 2025

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government has approved an allocation of RM70mil for Chinese and missionary schools as well as non-Muslim houses of worship for 2025, which is the highest amount ever being funded by the state government for this segment.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor during the Chinese New Year Carnival launch at Padang Merdeka downtown on Friday night (Jan 24), said this was a testament of the state government's commitment to fulfil the needs of each group.

In line with this, the state government's dedication to support all the people's programmes without prejudice should never be doubted, he said in his speech delivered by state Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew who represented him.

"I wish to thank the people of Sabah for their continuous support and trust in the GRS-PH government to lead the state,” Hajiji added.

The state's growth and economy would be impeded without political stability, he added.

The state government's achievement in collecting nearly RM7bil in revenue and attracting RM1.7bil in domestic and foreign investments last year, was attributed to the political stability, he reasoned.

On another note taking an example of the Carnival event, he said, “We celebrate each other's festivals together which has greatly galvanised unity among the multi-racial and multi-religious people in Sabah.

“This Chinese New Year Carnival is attended not only by the Chinese community but also by other communities of different races and beliefs.

"It is imperative for all of us to stay united and protect our peace, harmony and political stability to ensure Sabah's progress and development," he added, reminding the people not to be easily swayed by negative elements that are out to jeopardise unity.

At the same time, Hajiji also expressed gratitude to the Chinese community in Sabah for their strong support towards the state government in ensuring the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) halatuju development agenda could proceed smoothly.

He also commended the Kota Kinabalu City Hall and the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) for their close cooperation to ensure the success of the carnival.
