PETALING JAYA: Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Malaya (UM), and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) are ranked among the top three universities in Malaysia for Law in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2025.

UM secured second place in the 151-175 global ranking for the discipline, following UKM, which claimed the top spot in the 101-125 global band.

UUM sits at third place for the discipline in the 176-200 global band.

UM was also ranked among the top three in Malaysia in eight out of 11 subject categories including Business and Economics, Medical and Health, Computer Sciences, Education, Engineering, Life Sciences, Psychology and Social Sciences.

In addition to excelling in these fields, UM has improved its global rankings in five subject areas.

UM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Seri Dr Noor Azuan Abu Osman said that the recognition, particularly the inaugural ranking of the Law discipline, marks a proud milestone for UM and reflects its steadfast dedication to achieving world-class quality and standards.

"This is in line with the ultimate aspirations of creating new breakthroughs for the world, and in contributing to civilisational progress.

"The success of these rankings is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the entire campus community, especially our academic and research talent, as well as our non-academic workforce who have worked tirelessly and with great tenacity to meet our internally set Key Performance Indicators," he said in a statement issued by UM on Wednesday (Jan 22).

UUM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan said in a statement on Wednesday that the achievement is a major step forward in UUM's continuous efforts to establish itself as a top institution for higher education, especially in the field of law, on the global stage.

"The UUM Law School has shown a notable increase in high-impact research, while successfully forging a network of strategic collaborations with international institutions and professional bodies," he said.
