DOCTORS in Hyderabad, India, were able to transport a donor’s heart to another hospital in just 13 minutes, thanks to the city’s rail transit system, Makkal Osai reported.
The organ had to be transported from the Kamineni Hospital to Gleneagles Hospital, which is about 13km away through heavy traffic in India’s fourth most populous city.
To avoid the traffic, doctors coordinated with the city’s elevated metro train operator.
Accompanied by metro officials, doctors from Kamineni managed to make the journey through a specially created “green corridor” with no stops.
Doctors at Gleneagles then successfully transplanted the organ.
Hyderabad Metro Rail said it is committed to helping emergency services.
In a post on X, it proclaimed: “13km, 13 minutes, 1 life saved.”
