PUTRAJAYA: Although artificial intelligence (AI) is a vital tool in security efforts, challenges including ethical issues that come with its usage must also be addressed, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
“AI is not just a tool, it is a game changer in security operations. From predictive analytics to advanced surveillance, AI can detect threats faster and with greater precision.
“At the same time, it raises new ethical and governance challenges that we must address together,” he said in his opening speech at the Asia International Security Summit and Expo 2025 (AISSE25) at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre yesterday.
Saifuddin Nasution added that he hoped the expo would serve as a platform to address objectives that align with the “Asean vision for resilience and prosperity”.
The objectives include building sustainable industries and fostering regional cooperation for information and communications technology (ICT) and cybersecurity.
“In this digital age, security is intricately tied to technological advancement. AISSE25 emphasises the development and application of information and communication technology to bolster the resilience of Asean nations.
“Through collaboration, we can harness technology to safeguard our borders and strengthen Asean’s standing on the global stage,” he said.
The expo was also a prelude for the Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (Asean-GCC) Summit in May, which he said would highlight Malaysia’s role in bridging regions and strengthening partnerships.
“AISSE25 is not merely a gathering of experts and leaders, it is a call to action. It is an opportunity to share knowledge, forge partnerships and develop strategies that will shape a safer and more prosperous future for our region and the world.
“Malaysia is honoured to lead this charge,” said Saifuddin Nasution.
